WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – To celebrate National Family Literacy Month this November, the Lycoming County Library System (LCLS) is hosting a free, interactive literacy program across all six member libraries. These one-hour sessions blend reading, music, movement, and art to foster learning and strengthen family connections.
National Family Literacy Month was established in 1994 by the National Center for Families Learning, in collaboration with Congress, and encourages families to read together while establishing early learning routines.
While schools play an important role in academic growth, a child’s literacy journey begins at home. Everyday conversations, stories, songs, and playful learning experiences build a foundation for reading, comprehension, and learning.
“Supporting families in nurturing their children’s literacy development is essential in helping our communities grow and thrive,” said Nicole Radar, Programming and Youth Services Director with the Lycoming County Library System. “Family literacy activities can support children’s language development, expand their vocabulary, spark imagination, and nurture empathy and creativity.”
By combining reading, music, movement, and art, LCLS is helping build communication skills in a playful way with its National Literacy Month programs. Each one-hour session will be led by Nicole Rader and is designed for children and their caregivers of all ages.

About the Lycoming County Library System
The Lycoming County Library System supports the PA Forward statewide initiative, which believes that when Pennsylvania residents improve their command of five types of literacy – basic, information, civic and social, health and financial – they can achieve greater success as students, parents, employees, consumers, as citizens. Libraries are community centers of information, technology and learning that will fuel educational and economic opportunity for all of our citizens.
